NATAL CHARTS
Astrology [from the Greek “astra” meaning stars, and “logos” meaning logic or reason] is the scientific study of the actions and reactions of celestial bodies on our lives. It all starts with a natal chart, which is an astronomical placement of planets and other orbs in a Zodiac framework; the reading of that chart is astrology.
No one has the exact same natal chart, not even twins! A natal chart is determined by the date, exact time, and location of a birth. With twins, one has to come first, even if only by a minute, and that will slightly change the dynamics of their natal chart.
A Zodiac framework is a 360° circle and involves three elements: 12 houses [30° each], the 12 Zodiac signs, and the planets and other orbs [fixed stars, asteroids, etc.] In the blank chart below, you will see the houses are numbered 1-12, starting at the left horizon and going counter-clockwise. Also, a Zodiac sign is attached to each house. These are the primary rulers of those houses. Each house represents different qualities, parts of our body, and outside influences.
The chart to the right is usually the first type of exposure people have to astrology. The individual finds their birthday and determines what their Sun sign is; then proceeds to read general horoscopes for their Sun sign. In actuality, you are much more than your Sun sign!
With a full natal chart, you can discover your Ascendant [that left line on the horizon labeled AC, that describes your personality], and your Moon sign [which speaks to your emotions], as well as which house your Sun is located in your chart.
Below is a copy of my chart. You will see that my Sun is in Virgo [just on the cusp – that line dividing the signs - and in the 3rd House; my Ascendant [the cusp of the 1st House] is in Cancer, and my Moon is in Capricorn in the 7th House.
You will notice that my houses are not equally divided in 30°. This is because my personal preference is to use what’s called the Placidus house system. The other generally used system is called the Equal House system. [more on that later]
