For additional insight for my viewers, here is this week's Tarot reading. An overview of major astrology transits for this week helps focus the Tarot.
Mercury in Libra squares Jupiter in Cancer this week. Mercury gathers information – in Libra, wanting both sides of the story; Jupiter expands – in Cancer, with some emotion; a square aspect usually brings tension of some sort. Beware of personally overanalyzing, of exaggerations, or of making mountains out of molehills, and of others around you doing the same. With a positive placement in your natal chart, this could be energizing. There could be creative tension urging you forward!
First Quarter Moon at 7° Capricorn. Look back at the end of December 2024; what were you anticipating/wishing/planning for? Now is the time to act on that. Capricorn is concerned with strategies, foundations, long term goals, and taking responsibility. Looking at which house 7°- 9° Capricorn falls in your natal chart may help provide insight. [Remember, there’s a session on House themes in the Astrology for Beginners.]

I always take a few moments of quiet to center myself, take a few deep breaths, and listen to intuition coming forth as I shuffle the cards. Since October begins this week, I pulled a Medicine Card [from Jamie Sams and David Carson] for Native American animal guidance for the month.
For October: SQUIRREL – The natural instinct of Squirrel teaches us to gather and store away for times of need and to reserve something for the future. Always be prepared for change but don’t go nuts about it. Love yourself enough to recognize when it’s time to clean out your space and get rid of what no longer serves you. This can include worries, pressures, stresses, or gadgets that broke long ago. “The energies gathered will set your mind and heart free, so that you will know that all will be taken care of in its own time.”
For the Zodiac signs this week, I'm using the traditional Rider-Waite deck. For the Collective Card, I pulled from an older deck called How to Be a Wildflower.
Collective card: Nourish your soul.
This fits so well with the astrology, the Medicine card, and the numerology for October, being a 1-month in a 9-year. It’s a transition month of wrapping up the old and preparing for fresh starts. Just like the Squirrel card, when gathering what you need and ridding yourself of what you don’t, you are nourishing your soul and gaining clarity for what God wants for you.
ARIES [the Ram]: The Moon
The Moon card is inviting you to explore your intuitive and psychic abilities. This may require some time alone to mentally set aside whatever fears you or society has placed on this concept. It’s not a parlor game of reading someone’s mind. It’s having the courage to accept that God/Your Higher Spirit is speaking to you in a language only you understand.
TAURUS [the Bull]: The Emperor
Being a month of fresh starts, the Emperor is guiding you to your best self. With a rational approach that Taurus always appreciates, the Emperor asks you to determine why you’re approaching a project in the way you are. Are you letting society make the rules or can you be your own authority and make your own path?
GEMINI [the Twins]: Ace of Pentacles
Your curious nature, along with this card and the current astrology, suggests that you consider new business opportunities to advance. This could be doing something on a higher scale in your present job or starting a new venture from a hobby. A new source of income is very likely.
CANCER [the Crab]: Temperance
As Benjamin Franklin once said, “All things in moderation – including moderation.” This week it is particularly important to maintain balance in all you do, to handle life’s situations with joy in your heart, and to recognize that doing “nothing” is an action in itself.
LEO [the Lion}: King of Swords
Your natural leadership and wisdom are enhanced by the King of Swords; but like the Squirrel, don’t go nuts about it. With this week’s astrology, it would be easy to become domineering, expecting all to blindly follow your path. That’s probably not going to happen. Part of leadership is providing trust and clarity to help those near you establish their own secure paths.
VIRGO [the Virgin]: Five of Wands
For the practical Virgo, the combination of Tarot and astrology this week will likely challenge you. Be wary of analysis paralysis. In other words, don’t overthink it. Sometimes a conflict is just a little bump in the road of life. Whatever is thrown your way, you have the skills to handle it if you just stop, take a breath, and think about it.
LIBRA [the Scales]: The Devil
Once again, a reminder that Devil spelled backwards is Lived. Having Mercury in your sign currently suggests a steady stream of information coming your way. Your “lived” past experiences can aid you in sorting through what’s relevant and eliminating what is not. However, you may tend to think there is more that is relevant than there really is.
SCORPIO [the Scorpion]: Nine of Pentacles
Think luxury. This week of making plans for fresh starts, indulge in fantasy a bit in considering a few things you would most like to do just for you. Keep it simple – no around the world cruises or tossing your entire wardrobe and starting over. Now, which would be the most mentally deep healing for you and decide to have that come true.
SAGITTARIUS [the Archer]: Three of Cups
Jupiter rules Sagittarius, and with the astrology this week, you could likely find yourself considering too many options, thus causing yourself to do a great deal of second-guessing. If that’s the case, sit back and focus on doing the next “right” thing and not worrying about doing the next thing “right”. Life is a work in progress.
CAPRICORN [the Sea-Goat]: Four of Swords
Last week, with the eclipse and the Fall Equinox, energy was intense for most. This week would be a good time to take a breather, to withdraw for a bit to regain your strength and optimism. If there’s a heavy situation you’re trying to handle, take a break from that too until you have a better chance of coming out ahead.
AQUARIUS [the Water Bearer]: Ace of Cups
The people or group that bring you so much joy is waiting for you to join them. Finish up that project that has been keeping you distanced and plan a new venture that will include them or give you more time to enjoy their company.
PISCES [the Fish]: Page of Swords [Reversed]
This card generally implies an effort to take the high road and not let small annoyances interrupt a good day. However, with the card being reversed, your sureness is a little off kilter. You may find yourself “looking over your shoulder”, so to speak, questioning if those little annoyances are going to expand into something much worse. Rarely does that happen; it’s just your Piscean great imagination.
