An overview of major astrology transits for this week helps focus the Tarot. Please remember that astrology aspects are not predictions but merely signposts to help understand the astral influences that may affect you.
“And there will be signs in the sun and the moon and the stars.” Luke 21:25
· Today is the Winter Solstice. It’s the point when the Sun is at its southernmost before beginning back north, moving into hard-working Capricorn. December 21st will have the longest period of darkness, with the shortest period of light. In ancient cultures, this was considered an omen, but with today’s science, we know that nature needs that long, dark period of rest before it begins to build for the spring. Just as in nature, humans need the same period of rest.
As the Sun enters Capricorn, you may feel an intense shift to feeling more responsible and needing to delve deeper into what you envision as your meaning in life. Try to follow moderation in all things, including your sensitivity and your finances.
· Tuesday Venus in Sagittarius squares Neptune in Pisces, both in 29°, the anaretic degree, which generally means a last call or an ending. In this case, Neptune is at home in Pisces; so leaving where it’s comfortable will bring forth unrealistic feelings and disillusion. Any aspect that is squared will cause tension, particularly in the 29°. You may need more patience this week’ more importantly, respect yourself and know that Spirit lives in your heart.
· From Wednesday until January 16, Venus will be in hard-working Capricorn. This is nice, coming on Christmas Eve. It’s a time of traditions, loyalty, practical goals, commitment, and responsibility with money!
· Christmas Day: the Sun is conjunct Venus; again, a nice planetary aspect for the occasion. This is a gentle, loving aspect; could result in being idealistic – that everything will be perfect, and when it’s not, may cause hurt feelings. Avoid wearing your feelings on your sleeve. Remember the day is a celebration of the birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ, who is gentle and loving.
· The First Quarter Moon at 6° Aries will occur on Saturday. You may feel some impatience, but slow down, listen to your heart, and trust your feelings.
In considering all of these planetary aspects, more is revealed when you are aware of which houses these aspects occur in your natal chart and the transits in your natal chart.

I always take a few moments of quiet to center myself, take a few deep breaths, and listen to intuition coming forth as I shuffle the cards. For the Collective card this week, I used the Work Your Light Oracle deck by Rebecca Campbell. For the Zodiac signs this week, I'm using the traditional Rider-Waite deck.
· Collective card: Mirror
Who or what is triggering you in either a positive or negative way? Oftentimes a mentor will trigger in us positive feelings about ourselves. Sometimes reflecting on a disappointing/unhappy experience will trigger negative feelings. If we are not aware that people and events can trigger certain emotions, we are not yet in tune with our true self.
· ARIES [the Ram]: The High Priestess
The High Priestess is ruled by the Moon, highlighting your intuition and connection with God. Unplug and have some private time to give your mind time to reenergize and allow the unconscious to emerge for psychic development and awareness.
· TAURUS [the Bull]: Two of Cups
This card is ruled by Venus, which is prominent in the astrology this week. Those Venus aspects are particularly calling to you. This period allows for relationship balance and gives our lives value.
· GEMINI [the Twins]: Ace of Swords
You are being called to consider a new perspective of a project, event, or person in your life. This could cause some repressed anger to show itself. Face it, assess what is causing the anger, and let it go, Gemini. You are intelligent and articulate. This new outlook allows you to move forward in a positive stance.
· CANCER [the Crab]: The Fool
You are facing infinite potential, and you have the courage and optimism to achieve whatever you are aspiring to. Leap into that new territory without fear. There is a safety net under you even if you can’t see or imagine it.
· LEO [the Lion}: Death
It’s time to clean out the anger and disappointment dwelling in your mind. This week is too full of hope and love to let it be outdone by previous hurts. Without ‘death’ to clear away the old, nothing new can come into your life.
· VIRGO [the Virgin]: Four of Swords
Your best bet this week is to rest and regenerate. Call a mental truce on whatever is nagging or holding you down. Enjoy the momentous occasion this week and know that renewed energy will help you move forward next week.
· LIBRA [the Scales]: Two of Swords
The Two of Swords, ruled by the Moon in Libra, is advising that a decision is on the table that may come at a cost. The Moon represents the unknown, our emotions, and our protective instincts. Give great care to make your needs known and thereby protect yourself against harm.
· SCORPIO [the Scorpion]: Three of Cups
Life can be a party, and this week certainly gives cause for celebration. Avoid getting caught up in too many memories that may dampen your spirit. If someone or something new enters the picture, welcome them as you would want to be welcomed.
· SAGITTARIUS [the Archer]: Five of Cups
Fives represent conflict and grief. In Cups, it is likely to be emotionally based. Allow yourself a moderate time to grieve the past and losses or regrets. This is not a time to let that grief overload you. Whatever disappointments you have, balance that with having gratitude for how far you’ve come and all that you have.
· CAPRICORN [the Sea-Goat]: The Devil
Interestingly, the Devil card is ruled by Capricorn! With the holiday season upon us, your usual ‘nose to the grindstone’ attitude may be replaced with a temptation to indulge. Be careful to remember your personal weaknesses and restrict yourself where necessary.
· AQUARIUS [the Water Bearer]: The Hierophant
The Hierophant is all about tradition, and spiritual growth and guidance. It serves to provide a place to start in creating a personal awareness of God. What a lovely card to receive this week!
· PISCES [the Fish]: Queen of Wands
This card represents a fiery confidence and appreciation of life. You are passionate and honest. This week brings a sincere appreciation of those around you, which provides a form of protection from the outer world.
